About

Our Story

In 2016, a group of mothers came together at Burnett Bayland Park with the goal of providing a safe and healthy space for their children to play and engage in community.

Madres del Parque organization began as a clean up team of mothers and their children and has since grown into a space of community. The work has shifted to include walks and talks that have given us deep insight to the huge need for access to green spaces, healthy food, education, nature, community and connection.

We know that individuals’ life expectancy is tied to one’s zip code and Madres strives for community wellbeing. We define wellbeing holistically as financial, physical, mental, and environmental wellness.

Our Vision

We recognize that change starts with one - self, nature, and community.

Our Mission

Madres del Parque cultivates women’s Leadership potential to reconnect with themselves, each other, their ancestors, and the environment as a tool to impact change in their communities.

Our Values

Equity: acknowledge disparities that exist in Houston particularly around access to parks

Connection before collaboration through events and programs

Accompaniment: community informs how we move

Integrity: we say what we mean and respect the diversity of community by building trust

We ALL belong here. We are ALL welcome here!
